Newton’s Nook Designs August Release – Day 1

Hello friends and welcome to Day 1 of the Newton’s Nook August release! Whether you like your fall images spooky or cozy, we’ve got you covered this week!

All new products for this release will be available for purchase on Friday August 20th!

My first project uses the Brooms & Boos stamp set and coordinating dies:

My first thought when I saw these images was that the three witches were getting together for a party so I decided to create that scene:

I started by ink blending the panel using Distress Oxide ink (mostly Mustard Seed and Seedless Preserves – with a little Crushed Olive and Black Soot to darken up the top and bottom and a bit of Wilted Violet to brighten up the purple section). I then trimmed the ink blended panel to 3 3/4″ x 5″ to leave a small border after it is attached to my cardbase.

I then added a fence for them to gather around using the Fence Die Set cut from black cardstock.

After I colored and die cut the witches and moon, I started building the scene. The witch in the back is attached directly to the ink blended panel using liquid glue. I then used thin foam adhesive strips to attach the fence and trimmed off the excess. The remaining witches were added with liquid glue directly to the fence.

I finished the scene by adding the moon with foam adhesive and directly stamping the sentiment and bats onto the background (I would suggest a stamping platform just in case you need to stamp twice).

Next up is another card using the Brooms & Boos stamp set but this time the new Candy Corn stencil is the star of the show:

I started by creating my candy corn background using a 6×6 piece of white cardstock (I always use a piece the same size as the stencil so I can use the leftovers for other projects – see if you can spot the next project later this week!). I stenciled the yellow and orange sections using Distress Oxide ink (Carved Pumpkin and Mustard Seed). For the white section, I added Iridescent Glitter Glitz Gel from Gina K for a little sparkle.

After the glitter gel dried, I die cut a piece from the panel using one of the dies from the Frames and Flag die set. I also cut a piece of orange cardstock from the same die.

Now this is where things went a little off track – my intent was to create a portrait style card with an orange “hill” and a “sky” filled with candy corn. I used a die from the Land Border die set to cut the stenciled piece but the end of the die got caught on the edge of my Gemini Jr and shifted so it wasn’t the angle I was planning on. In hindsight, I should have cut the orange piece instead so don’t make my same mistake! I didn’t want to abandon my stenciled piece so I just flipped the orientation and rearranged some of the other elements.

I stamped and die cut a witch (I decided not to color her so the stenciled panel could remain the focal point).

After gluing the orange panel to my card base, I added the stenciled piece and witch with foam adhesive. I finished with a sentiment heat embossed in white.

Crisis averted!

  1. I love how you have the witches standing by the fence. It looks like they are at a Halloween party. The candy corn card is very cute. I like that you didn’t color the witch. I think it makes the candy corn stand out more. Great card ideas.

  2. Like how you colored the witches & arranged them at fence with wonderful ink blended background. Candy corn is a fav of mine. I always get the Autumn Harvest bag of candy that has the pumpkins in it along with candy corn of both traditional & Fall colors.

  3. Both cards are very delightful like the 3 gals at the fence talking about their plans— and the candy corn is fabulous with the cool colors – I also like the sentiments — nice work TFS

  4. Sometimes our ‘mistakes’ can turn the card into something totally unique; I love how the design came out on that one. And your ink blending & coloring on the first card is just awe-mazing & lovely.

  5. I like the card with the witches partying by the fence. It seems so spontaneous. I also like the glitter effect added to the candy corn stencil. No one would know you had an “oopsie” except you were honest and told us!

  6. Love your awesome scene with the witches & how you used all of them on your first card! Also love the touch of glitter you added to the candy corn on your second card!
