Fall Friends Die Cuts Only Card – Newton’s Nook Designs

Welcome friends to a bit of an extension from last weeks release fun at Newton’s Nook! Sometimes I have too many ideas to squeeze into that week and I keep them in my memory bank for later.

This time I really wanted to focus on using the “bonus” dies from the Fall Friends coordinating die set. Those little pumpkin and leaf dies were just too cute!

I started by selecting a fall palette from my cardstock scraps and cut both pumpkins and the leaf from each. I then added a little bit of shading using a Copic marker that was a bit darker than the cardstock. I didn’t worry to much about blending – just follow along the stitched detail that already exists in the die.

I then placed the die cuts on a panel cut to 3.75″X 5″ (leaving a space in the center for the sentiment from the Signs of Fall stamp set . Once I was happy with the design, I attached them using foam adhesive.

I finished up by adding the sentiment and some stamped “vines” to fill in any empty spaces.

Such a quick and colorful card with lots of possibilities of variations in color or design!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Newton’s Nook Designs August Release – Day 4

Hello friends and welcome to Day 4 of the Newton’s Nook August release!

All new products for this release will be available for purchase on Friday August 20th!

My first project uses the new Signs of Fall stamp set and coordinating dies:

I love this series of sign stamps and this one is no exception! So much easier than trying to mask a bunch of different images to create your own grouping.

I started by ink blending a background (Speckled Egg and Scattered Straw). I actually used some leftover pieces from my Day 2 Count Newton card to create the hills in the same way.

I then stamped falling leaves with the small image included in the Signs of Fall set. Since the ink blending was relatively light, I was able to color over the leaves using Copic markers and still get good coverage.

Once I colored and die cut the focus image, I added to the scene using foam tape.

My last project for this release uses the Heartfelt Fall stamp set:

After so much precise coloring, I decided to go a little more loose for this card.

I started by heat embossing the image in gold. I then used various colors of Distress Ink to create the watercolor effect. Just smoosh the ink pads (I used mini size but either would work) on a glass mat and spray a small amount of water on each color. I used a slightly damp brush to add color to each leaf. Don’t worry about staying in the lines!

I added a sentiment from the same set on a banner from the Banner Trio die set and called it done! Nice and simple!

Newton’s Nook Designs August Release – Day 3

Hello friends and welcome to Day 3 of the Newton’s Nook August release! Today we switch to the cozy side of fall?

All new products for this release will be available for purchase on Friday August 20th!

My first project uses the new Fall Friends stamp set and coordinating dies – spoiler alert, this might be my favorite product of the release!

I was so excited to see Newton together with his puppy friend in this image so I could color them to look just like my Finn and Ginger (although “friends” might not be a word I would use to describe their relationship):

I knew I wanted to create a “front porch” scene for this image. I started by die cutting a piece of white and a piece of kraft cardstock from the stitched rectangle die that is part of the Frames & Flags die set. To give the look of siding, I cut the white piece into strips that were about 3/4″ wide and added a little bit of gray ink blending along the edges. I then just reassembled the rectangle onto my card base.

I added a trimmed piece of the kraft die cut along the bottom (the image is large enough to cover the seam so no need to worry about how that looks).

After I stamped, colored and die cut the main image, I added it to the background using foam adhesive.

I finished the card with a sentiment placed in one of the “siding” sections using orange ink.

Next up is another really fun image to color, Heartfelt Gourds:

The bulk of the time taken to create this card is the coloring (the most fun part in my opinion). I selected shades of yellow, orange, green and a bit of teal for this image.

I then die cut the image using the Heart Frames die set. I wanted to do something a little different with this image so I used every ounce of courage I had, and I cut it in half! I then attached each side to my card front.

I finished by added my favorite sentiment from the set on a banner from the Banner Trio die set.

Would you like to win the “Fall Friends” or the “Heartfelt Gourds” Stamp Set? We will choose ONE lucky winner for each stamp set!

Newton’s Nook Designs August Release – Day 2

Hello friends and welcome to Day 2 of the Newton’s Nook August release! Cats and Halloween are such a perfect pair so today is Newton’s day to shine!

All new products for this release will be available for purchase on Friday August 20th!

My first project uses the new Count Newton stamp set and coordinating dies:

I was so in love with the color combination I used to ink blend yesterday’s card, I wanted to use it one more time for a little cemetery scene featuring Newton!

After blending, I die cut a panel using the Frames & Flags die set. I wanted to add a little more dimension on this card, so I also added some hills cut from the Land Border die set. I started by cutting cardstock with the stitched rectangle die I used for the blended panel and then cut the hills and grass so they would have the same stitching detail along the edges.

Now to add some fun elements to our scene:

I stamped and colored the Count Newton image and tombstones and then die cut them and also die cut the coffin shape from black cardstock (it was the perfect fit a few of the sentiments included in this set!). I attached the images to my background using a combination of liquid glue and foam adhesive.

I finished by adding a few bats from the same set directly onto the blended background.

My next card uses Trick or Treat Kittens along with some of my left over stenciled panel from yesterday’s card:

I started by cutting a background from my leftover Candy Corn stencil piece using the Frames Squared die set. I also cut a banner from black cardstock using the Banner Trio die set to help the candy corn piece pop out from the card base.

After adding the background pieces, I used foam adhesive to attach the colored and die cut image from the Trick or Treat Kittens set.

I finished by tucking in a sentiment right along the bottom.

Would you like to win the “Count Newton”  or the “Trick or Treat Kittens” Stamp Set? We will choose ONE lucky winner for each stamp set!

Newton’s Nook Designs August Release – Day 1

Hello friends and welcome to Day 1 of the Newton’s Nook August release! Whether you like your fall images spooky or cozy, we’ve got you covered this week!

All new products for this release will be available for purchase on Friday August 20th!

My first project uses the Brooms & Boos stamp set and coordinating dies:

My first thought when I saw these images was that the three witches were getting together for a party so I decided to create that scene:

I started by ink blending the panel using Distress Oxide ink (mostly Mustard Seed and Seedless Preserves – with a little Crushed Olive and Black Soot to darken up the top and bottom and a bit of Wilted Violet to brighten up the purple section). I then trimmed the ink blended panel to 3 3/4″ x 5″ to leave a small border after it is attached to my cardbase.

I then added a fence for them to gather around using the Fence Die Set cut from black cardstock.

After I colored and die cut the witches and moon, I started building the scene. The witch in the back is attached directly to the ink blended panel using liquid glue. I then used thin foam adhesive strips to attach the fence and trimmed off the excess. The remaining witches were added with liquid glue directly to the fence.

I finished the scene by adding the moon with foam adhesive and directly stamping the sentiment and bats onto the background (I would suggest a stamping platform just in case you need to stamp twice).

Next up is another card using the Brooms & Boos stamp set but this time the new Candy Corn stencil is the star of the show:

I started by creating my candy corn background using a 6×6 piece of white cardstock (I always use a piece the same size as the stencil so I can use the leftovers for other projects – see if you can spot the next project later this week!). I stenciled the yellow and orange sections using Distress Oxide ink (Carved Pumpkin and Mustard Seed). For the white section, I added Iridescent Glitter Glitz Gel from Gina K for a little sparkle.

After the glitter gel dried, I die cut a piece from the panel using one of the dies from the Frames and Flag die set. I also cut a piece of orange cardstock from the same die.

Now this is where things went a little off track – my intent was to create a portrait style card with an orange “hill” and a “sky” filled with candy corn. I used a die from the Land Border die set to cut the stenciled piece but the end of the die got caught on the edge of my Gemini Jr and shifted so it wasn’t the angle I was planning on. In hindsight, I should have cut the orange piece instead so don’t make my same mistake! I didn’t want to abandon my stenciled piece so I just flipped the orientation and rearranged some of the other elements.

I stamped and die cut a witch (I decided not to color her so the stenciled panel could remain the focal point).

After gluing the orange panel to my card base, I added the stenciled piece and witch with foam adhesive. I finished with a sentiment heat embossed in white.

Crisis averted!

Newton Loves Boxes – Newton’s Nook Designs

The fascination between cats and boxes is no joke! I love these images for a congratulations card like this but with the right colors you could easily make it a birthday or Christmas card too.

I started by stamping and coloring two images from the Newton Loves Boxes set (all of the kitties are colored with W0-W10 markers and the boxes were colored with E51-E55 markers). I then cut them out with the coordinating dies.

To create the background, I started by blending clouds using the Clouds Stencil and Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide Ink. I blended Twisted Citron and just a touch of Mowed Lawn Distress Oxide Ink to create the ground. I just let them gently blend together since I knew the stamped images would cover most of the transition.

I die cut the blended piece using the stitched rectangle from the Frames & Flags die set. My original plan was to use the entire rectangle but I thought about trying to cut the top using the cloud die from the Sky Borders die set. I was really happy with the little extra interest it gave the background piece!

I attached the background and larger kitty (with two boxes) using foam adhesive. I used an action wobbler to attach the kitty “hiding” in the box for a some extra fun!

Finally I tucked the sentiment between the images and this one is ready to go!

And to demonstrate the truth of “if I fits, I sits”, here is our kitty, Ginger:

I’m pretty sure she thinks that Finn can’t see her in that first picture! And it’s a little hard to see in the second picture but Ginger is a polydactyl cat (meaning she has “thumbs”)! And she has the softest, silkiest fur of any cat I’ve ever known.

Newton’s Nook Designs February Release and Giveaway – Day 4

Hello friends and welcome to Day 4 of the Newton’s Nook February release! These last projects are some of my favorites from this release and I’m so excited to share them with you!

All new products for this release will be available for purchase on Friday February 19th!

My first card uses the new Newton’s Rainy Day stamp set and coordinating die:

I started by visiting my color inspiration board on Pinterest and found this little gem of a combo that was a perfect spring color scheme for these kitties:

  • Yellow – Y35, Y08, Y02
  • Navy – B99, B97, B95
  • Pink – R32, R20, R00
  • Aqua – BG11, BG10
  • Neutrals are all a mix of warm and neutral grays

To create my stormy background, I used post-it tape to mask the edges of the card front and then used the Cloud Stencil to create the clouds. It’s a little hard to see in the photos, but I also embossed the raindrops from the set on top and added drops of glossy accents to each one.

I finished the card by attaching the die cut images with dimensional adhesive and adding a sentiment center right below it.

Next up is the Daffodils stamp set and an die:

These are so fun and easy to color (I may have gone a little overboard)! I decided to use all of them and create a whole little garden scene. I started with some “dirt” made by using the extra bumpy cloud die from the Sky Borders Die Set cut from dark brown cardstock. I also cut a small slit to tuck in one bunch of daffodils for some extra dimension:

I trimmed the daffodils even with the edge of the card front (don’t throw those pieces away though – I added them towards the top on each side!). I also added some light yellow ink blending at the top of the card for a sunny look.

Finally, I added an embossed sentiment in the dirt to finish this card.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Newton’s Nook Designs February Release and Giveaway – Day 3

Welcome back to day 3 of the Newton’s Nook Designs February release! Today’s release is a sweet addition to the farmyard collection of products.

All new products for this release will be available for purchase on Friday February 19th!

Today’s card was made using an image (and coordinating die) from the new Baa stamp set:

I always like to see how I can mix old and new, so for this set I started with the Floral Fringe stamp set as a background. Even though the image is a square, it works will when die cut with a circle die from the Circle Frames Die Set and makes a great little frame for critter images!

I created a little patch of “ground” for my lamb to sit on using the same technique as yesterdays card (start with a circle cut with the Circle Frames Die Set and then cut down with the grass border from the Land Borders Die Set). I also used that spot for my embossed sentiment (also from the Baa set).

And don’t forget, this little lamb now joins an entire family of farm themed products!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Newton’s Nook Designs February Release and Giveaway – Day 2

Welcome back for another day of releases from Newton’s Nook! Today’s product release is going to help you get a “hop” on your Easter projects!

All new products for this release will be available for purchase on Friday February 19th!

Today’s first card was made using images the new Hoppy Greetings stamp set:

This is one of my favorite ways to create a small scene on a card! I start by creating a stencil using a circle die and masking paper – in this case, I used the die from the Circle Frames Die Set. I then paired it up with the Cloud Stencil to create the sky. Next, I used that same die to cut a circle from green cardstock and then cut that down using the grass die from the Land Borders Die Set. I added a little bit of ink blending at the bottom of the green circle and adhered it over the sky. Now my scene is ready for decoration!

I stamped the bunny image from the Hoppy Greetings set along with a number of eggs and flowers. I colored them using the following Copics:

  • W00, W1, W3, R20, R00 for the bunny
  • E51, E53, E55, E57 for the sign
  • BV02, BV31, BG23, BG11, R20, R00, RV14. RV13, YG17, YG23, YG21 for the eggs, flowers and grass

I finished the bunny image by adding a sentiment from the same set and adding to the card front with dimensional adhesive.

Next up is the sweet little Hare Mail stamp:

Small images like this are fun to use multiple times on a card front and the Slimline Frames and Windows Die Set provides the perfect home for three of them!

I started by blending the background using Tattered Rose and Worn Lipstick distress ink. I also used the Worn Lipstick ink to add a postmark image under the bunny on the left. If you would like the sentiment to be a bit more subtle, you could have done them same there but I chose black this time.

I then stamped and die cut three of the bunny images. I colored each bunny a different color using Copic markers:

  • W00, W1, W3
  • E55, E53, E51
  • C00, C1, C3 (I also used C00 and C1 to add a bit of shading to each of the envelopes)

Finally, I attached each bunny using foam adhesive and did the same with the slimline frame die cut (if you don’t have skinny strips of foam adhesive, just try cutting a few frames and adhering them together with liquid adhesive to add a little dimension).

One other idea I had for this bunny was to fussy cut just the face from the image and use it to peek out from all kinds of places besides the envelope!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Sweet Treats Blog Hop – Newton’s Nook Designs

Newton’s Nook Designs 7th Annual Sweet Treats Blog Hop!

The Newton’s Nook Designs Team is hopping along today to share some great Sweet Treats – just in time for Valentines day! Make sure you scroll down to the bottom of this post to see the whole list and hop along and comment for a chance to win!

I love a good treat box (even more so when it’s super easy to make and it has a lab on it)!

I don’t remember where I originally saw the idea for this box but after I had made a few I started reciting “punch and score at two and four” each time and now that little rhyme sticks in my head and I can make these without having to worry about figuring out measurements or using any special dies.

All you need is a 6×6 piece of paper and an envelope punch board. And then just follow the rhyme and punch and score at two and four!

When you’re done with all the punching and scoring, just fold along all the score lines (or don’t – I’ve tried it both ways and either works). You’re paper should now look like this:

Now just trim flaps like the picture below. It’s pretty forgiving so if you happen to cut the wrong side, you won’t be able to tell once everything is put together. Now is also the time to round the corners of each top flap if you want to and add holes for ribbon. You don’t actually need holes on all four – just two will do. Add some strong adhesive to each flap and you’re ready to assemble!

Once you’re box is assembled, add a favorite image and a sentiment strip (mine are all from the Fetching Friendship set along with the coordinating dies).

And certainly don’t forget to fill it with some treats before you tie the ribbon on top! Anything chocolate is top on my list!

Sweet Treats Blog Hop Giveaway!

Would you like to win a $25 store credit to Newton’s Nook Designs online shop?

We are giving them out to TWO lucky winners!

Here’s how to win:
