Newton’s Nook Designs January Release and Giveaway – Day 4

Hello friends and welcome to Day 4 of the Newton’s Nook January release! I’m so excited to share the final projects I’ve been working on this month!

All new products for this release will be available for purchase on Friday January 22nd!

My first project uses the new Newton’s Mug stamp set and coordinating dies:

Now since I’m new here, I’m going to warn you that I’m pretty much always going to color Newton just like this because that’s what my cat, Ginger, looks like. And yes, her name is Ginger but she isn’t orange – long story for another day!

Thank you card by Samantha VanArnhem using Newton's Mug stamp and coordinating dies, Caffeinated Cats stamp set, Frames and Flags die set, Furr-ever Friends stamp set
Products Used: Newton’s Mug stamp and coordinating dies, Caffeinated Cats stamp set, Frames and Flags die set, Furr-ever Friends stamp set (tiny heart on tea bag)

I wanted to provide some kind of subtle background for the image from the Newton’s Mug set and Caffeinated Cats seemed like a perfect fit!

I started by stamping that image in a very pale gray ink and then die cut it using the largest die from the Frames and Flags die set. I trimmed the scalloped edge from the stamped background but still left the stitching detail. I also cut a second frame with the same die from a bright yellow cardstock. Layered together they provided a perfect background!

I did include pieces of scrap cardstock under the stamped background (you could also use foam) before attaching it to the yellow frame to provide a little dimension. It would be fine without it though if you’re concerned about bulk when mailing.

After stamping the image from Newton’s Mug (and adding the little tea bag), I colored it using Copic markers:

  • W00, W1, W3, W5 for the kitty and a little shading on the tea bag
  • Y02, Y08, Y35 for the mug

Once the image was die cut, I attached it to the background with foam tape.

I finished with a sentiment from the same set (I love how it tucks right up next to the mug!) and a tiny little heart on the tea bag (this one is from the Furr-ever Friends stamp set – the first Newton’s Nook stamp set I ever purchased).

Next up is a project using the new Love Cafe stamps and die set:

If you happen to follow my friend Seeka on Instagram (and if for some reason you don’t, you totally should!) you’ve probably seen her kitty peeking around for pastry in her weekend stories. He was the inspiration for this card:

Hello card by Samantha VanArnhem using Love Cafe stamp and die sets, Smitten Kitten stamp and die sets, Circle Frames die set, Newton's Birdhouse stamp set (sentiment), Tumbling Hearts stencil
Products Used: Love Cafe stamp and die sets, Smitten Kitten stamp and die sets, Circle Frames die set, Newton’s Birdhouse stamp set (sentiment), Tumbling Hearts stencil

I started by die cutting two circles using the Circle Frames die set – one white, one my favorite shade of yellow/green. I trimmed the colored cardstock slightly more than halfway to create a “tabletop” for the mugs to sit on.

After stamping the images, I colored them using a combination of Copic and Sketchmarker Brush Pro markers:

  • E41, E42, E43, E44 for the kitty with R00, R20 for the ears and nose (Copic)
  • Y74, Y73, G135, G131, R61, R62 for the mugs (Sketchmarker Brush Pro)

The mugs were attached using foam adhesive with the kitty tucked behind them. I embossed a sentiment from the Newton’s Birdhouse stamp set.

I wanted to finish the card with something subtle in the background so I used the Tumbling Hearts stencil (with, ironically, Tumbled Glass distress oxide ink) to add a bit of pattern. I inked the darkest at the top and let the blending fade about half way down the card front.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Newton’s Nook Designs January Release and Giveaway – Day 1

Hello friends and welcome to Day 1 of the Newton’s Nook January release! I’m so excited to share all of the projects I’ve been working since joining the team!

All new products for this release will be available for purchase on Friday January 22nd!

My first project uses the new Heartfelt Roses stamp set and Heart Frame:

My instinct was to color the roses pink or red but I decided to try something different and went with purple:

Thank you card by Samantha VanArnhem using Heartfelt Roses stamp set, Heart Frame die set, Banner Trio die set, Slimline Frames and Portholes die set
Products Used: Heartfelt Roses stamp set, Heart Frame die set, Banner Trio die set, Slimline Frames and Portholes die set (butterfly)

After stamping the image from Heartfelt Roses, I colored it using Copic markers:

  • BV31, BV02, BV04 for the roses
  • YG00, YG01, YG03, YG17 for the leaves

I then used the largest scalloped frame from the Heart Frames die set to cut out the image.

I wanted to make this a shaped card, so I used the largest die from the set to create a card base.

The sentiment is also from the Heartfelt Roses set using a banner from the Banner Trio die set. The small butterfly from the Slimline Frames and Portholes die set was cut from iridescent velum and layered over another one cut from white cardstock. Two small gems make the butterfly’s “body”.

Next up is probably my favorite project from the whole release using the Heartfelt Love stamp:

My first thought when I saw that stamp was a box of Valentine’s Day chocolate candy!

Valentine's Day card by Samantha VanArnhem using Heartfelt Love stamp set, Heart Frame die set, Banner Trio die set
Products Used: Heartfelt Love stamp set, Heart Frame die set, Banner Trio die set

After stamping the image from Heartfelt Love, I colored it using Copic markers:

  • E55, E57, E59, RV21, RV13, RV14

I then used the largest scalloped frame from the Heart Frames die set to cut out the image. I layered that over a pink heart cut using the largest frame from the same set. The “box of candy” was then glued onto a 5×5 card base with a layer of kraft cardstock.

The sentiment is also from the Heartfelt Love stamp set on a banner from the Banner Trio die set. The word MINE was colored with the same pink Copic markers used to color the hearts.

For a final touch, I added some white gel pen to each of the hearts to give it a little chocolate shine!

Thanks so much for stopping by!
