Newton’s Nook Designs April Release and Giveaway – Day 4

Hello friends and welcome to Day 4 of the Newton’s Nook April release! These last projects are so fun and full of spring images and I’m so excited to share them with you!

All new products for this release will be available for purchase on Friday April 23rd!

My first card uses the new Heartfelt Butterflies stamp set (which coordinates with the previously released Heart Frames die set):

Believe me, the pull was *very* strong to color these butterflies in with rainbow colors. Very strong. But I also thought about Blue Morpho butterflies. True blue like that seems to be a pretty rare color to find in animals, so I wanted to make it the star of this project.

I started by heat embossing the Heartfelt Butterflies stamp onto Bristol Smooth cardstock (either white or clear embossing powder would work). I then blended over it using Distress Oxide inks (this time a blend of Tumbled Glass, Broken China and Blueprint Sketch).

I then die cut the image using the largest scalloped frame from the Heart Frames die set.

I kept debating about where to place a sentiment and finally decided to create my own space by trimming out a section of the heart just wide enough to fit it.

I attached the heart to my card base using foam adhesive and the added the sentiment using the same Blueprint Sketch ink.

Next up is another new set to coordinate with the Heart Frames die set, Heartfelt Blooms:

Since I ink blended my first card, I decided to color this one in springy shades of pink, purple and yellow. I then die cut the image the same scalloped heart die. This time I added the largest heart die from the same set as a backing in a shade of green.

To add a little texture to the front of the card, I embossed the front card panel using the new Petite Hearts stencil (you’ll need to figure out what is the right sandwich for your particular die cut machine for that technique).

I then attached the heart to the card front slightly off center and trimmed off the edge that was hanging over.

I finished it with a banner created with a sentiment from the same set a banner trimmed from pink cardstock (you could also use a banner from the Banner Trio die set in it’s place).

  2. Both beautiful and wonderful! I love how you’ve changed up how that heart shape appears on your cards! Such a great reminder that centered and whole is not always the best design! Thanks so much for sharing and inspiring!
